Local Rotary Club raises $10,000 to fight food insecurity
On Saturday, March 13, our business community, our local Rotary and the public came together to eat all the pie they could eat at Shelburne Elementary School. At the same time, almost $10,000 was raised to support efforts to reduce food insecurity in the area.
Some, but not all, of the kinds of pies that were eaten were: bacon caramel, bumbleberry, pumpkin, apple and pork, broccoli and cheddar, various quiches, a chicken pot pie, and, of course, good old plain apple pie.
The event was planned, organized and run by Rotary Club of Charlotte-Shelburne-Hinesburg from 8 a.m. until noon. More than 200 people ate up over 55 pies and bought raffle tickets. Some of the items raffled off were gift certificates, services, and merchandise from area businesses.
