The USPS blue mailboxes on streets and outside post office buildings that accommodate sending mail during non-business hours for the USPS are not secure. Mail is stolen from these mailboxes and the checks enclosed are being altered and fraudsters attempt to steal money from the victim’s bank account. This kind of crime has been happening in other parts of the country and is now happening in Vermont, recently in towns in Addison County.
This announcement comes from Cody Smith, Community Office Manager at the National Bank of Middlebury.
